Birchfield Jazz Festival 2018

The Birchfield Jazz Festival is a celebratory weekend of free live music based at St Mary’s Church in Handsworth Birmingham in the month of July. Following a successful launch in 2017, the festival returns in 2018, and hopes to become a permanent fixture for many years to come.

OSUN STORY

Pyn Stockman is a professional storyteller. She draws freely on tales from the oral tradition - folktales, wonder tales, epics and myths and gives them a contemporary twist.

Half Term Project | African Arts Week 2017

The Ifa Yoruba Contemporary Arts Trust are offering an opportunity for young people aged between 8-12 years to take part in a series of workshops with professional Artists. Based on an African Story, the workshops will include Storytelling, Music making, Song-Writing, Drama and Mask Making.
African Arts Week 2017

African Arts Week 2017 will be a celebration of the spirit of Africa - and will involve symposiums and talks, film screenings, visual arts, music, young people’s projects, food and fashion. Dates will be announced shortly.
YORUBA SONNETS 2017

A cross arts performance collaboration exploring the Odu Corpus from Yoruba Sacred Divination, through spoken word, dance and live music with Dr. Olu Taiwo. Performing at Summerfest, Taunton June 17th 2017 with future performances at Salisbury Arts Centre.

Ifa Yoruba Associate Artists Lekan Babalola, Kate Luxmoore and Pritam Singh come together to perform as THREE. These three experienced musicians, from three separate genres and musical traditions, representing different communities of Birmingham understand the power of the Arts as a metaphor for Democracy, dedicated to freedom of ideas and expression.
Birmingham Cajon Club

The Club is led by Percussionist: Lekan Babalola. Come and join in the art of learning CAJON, a box-shaped percussion instrument originally from Peru, played by slapping the front or rear faces (generally thin plywood) with the hands, fingers, or sometimes various implements such as brushes, mallets, or sticks. Street Procession

Since 2013, Eko Brass Band has led the street procession for the Lagos Black Heritage Festival Curated by Prof. Wole Soyinka. Eko Brass Band-The Royal Sound of Lagos carried out a ceremony and street performance for the opening of the festival street procession 2016.

Set in 1977, the Kalakutans is an imaginative retelling of events leading up to the invasion of Fela’s compound by soldiers from a nearby barracks which led to the burning down of Fela’s house and the brutalizing of the residents.
